Detailed description of Altadena Golf Course
Altadena Golf Course, is a Public, 9 hole golf course located in Altadena, California, at the foot of the Sierra Madre Mountains.
The Altadena Golf Course first opened as an 18 hole private county club in 1910. Due to financial difficulties as a result of The Great Depression of 1932 First Savings and Trust Bank took over management of the Club under the name of the Altadena Golf Club. The county acquired sixty acres of the property in 1946.
The County hired William P. Bell to design a new 9-hole golf course on the acquired property.
Par for the course is 36. From the back tees the course plays to 2,995 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 2,709 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 9, a par-5 that plays to 491 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 2, a par-3 that plays to 164 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 7, a 370 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 6, a 301 yard par-4.
This Regulation 9-hole course features large tree lined fairways, level terrain and majestic mountain views.

A friendly municipal track. Great folks and a very relaxed atmosphere. If you get out early on a weekend or most any weekday a single player can get around 9 holes in 1-1/2 hours. You are hitting off grass on the range for all but two weeks a year. It has a practice bunker and a practice chipping area too.

Part of the County of Los Angeles parks and recreations. Often times used by local high schools for tournaments. Grounds are always clean and the staff courteous. Prices are set by county, but they keep some good practice greens and a decent driving range.

I played this course, plus Eaton Canyon which is managed by the same company--DC Golf, with a group of friends who get together for golf about once every two months. We played Eaton Canyon in the morning, had lunch together, drove to Altadena which was about 3 miles away, and played it. Because the two are linked, we were able to play Altadena as a "replay" for about $3.00 as I recall. Great price for 9 holes. At several places the fairways had "browned out" and it looked like they were not getting any attention. The greens were in good shape. Altadena is a cut below Eaton Canyon in my opinion, but the round was enjoyable.
